A Kenai Must

Fishing Alaska's Kenai Peninsula

By Dave Atcheson

If you fish the Kenai Peninsula, get this book. If it's your first time, it's invaluable. If it's the 10th time, it has new places you have to try.

Alaska Birding Tour Links

These are not necessarily the only tour groups that arrange trips to Alaska. Often groups like Audobon chapters or other birding groups will arrange birding trips to the state. But this list contains some of the best professional tour groups that regularly schedule birding trips to Alaska. If you see a tour group that is missing, and let us know, we can add them.

If you are considering a birding tour of Alaska, we do have a couple of resources in our trip planning guide. Check out our Choosing a Birding Tour page or our Birding Tour Group pages.

Wilderness Birding Adventures – These are not the classic birding tours, these are aimed less at comfort, and more adventure. For example their lodging in Gambel with with native families rather than the hotel for an amazing cultural experience. Another example of their unique offerings is a seven-day rafting trip for the Gray-headed Chickadee.

VENT – Victor Emanuel Nature Tours is one of the premiere Birding Tour companies in the world. They run a number of tours to all the classic Alaskan destinations, including what may be the last tour of Attu in the Fall of 2006.

FONT – Focus on Nature Tours is another well known international birding tour group. They run a couple of Alaskan tours each summer.

St Paul Island Tour - Offers birding various length packages for St Paul Island. Perhaps the best way to have an almost do it yourself trip to one of the Bering Sea Islands.

WINGS – Another of the premier birding tour companies that offers multiple trips to Alaska. They hit the standard locations, Denali, Kenai, Gambel, and Nome.

High Lonesome – They bill themselves as the small group alternative. They have several of the classic birding trips including Barrow.

Field Guides Bird Tours - Field Guides – Another of the major international birding tour operators, Field Guides run two sets of tours to Alaska each summer hitting the classic locations.

Borderland - Borderland offers a series of Alaska birding tours that hit the Classic locations. Each tour can be booked separately, or combined to the ultimate Alaskan birding tour.

Ouzel Epeditions - Ouzel offers back country and remote birding float trips.

Attour – Attour found its place in birdwatching lore by opening Attu to the birding. Unfortunately, they no longer run Attu tours and there are no more vendors that travel there. Logistical obstacles finally ended regular tours of Attu Island. But check out there site to see what made this an iconic birdwatching experience.
