A Must Read for Any Fisherman

Fishing for a Laugh
by Lew Freedman

Who must have this book: Any fisherman with a sense of humor.
Who should have this book: Anyone who is thinking about coming to Alaska to fish.

ISBN: 0945397674

I was looking forward to getting this book. In just a couple of dozen fishing Charters I have seen a lot of amazing things from Orcas surfacing just yards away from our boat to a deck hand who washed his hands in the ocean after each fish by leaning over vertically until only his belt buckle (apparently) was keeping him from going head first into the drink. I have seen fish caught with $300 fly rods attached. I have seen Sea Bass come up with two ling cod attached and others swimming behind. Every trip has something new, amazing and often funny.

So this book is a no brainer. Simply talk to all the fishing guides, charter captains, and avid fisherman and get them to tell their best and funniest anectdotes. Granted, these are fishing stories so it is sometimes fuzzy where truth ends and good-natured embellishments begin, but the resulting collection is an amazing pile of humorous, odd, and simply amazing fishing stories.

The book fires one story after another at you in a fast-paced, manner that keeps you from putting the book down. If you are looking for plane reading on your trip up to Alaska or a new addition to your bathroom library, look no farther, this book is a winner.

Overview

This book is a divided into 23 chapters based on loose themes from fishing injuries to shark encounters. Over the course of the book there seems to be some repetition of stories or story types, but it is completely forgivable. My fishing buddies are still milking the same stories they have for years.
