Ship Creek Dam Close-up

The state of Alaska has done an amazing job with their scenic overlooks and rest stops. They have definitely invested a lot of money into interpretive displays which you can find at nearly every pull out. It is a little extra for those non-fishing members of your group who can spend some time reading while you get in some casts.

Other distractions for non fisherman at bird creek include a campground and a paved bike path that runs above the Turnagain arm. Birds and wildflowers can also be found in the area for those looking for something other than fishing. Also, there are very nice camping facilties. Careful these tend to fill up fast on weekends.
