The Power Station at the Eklutna Tailrace

The Eklutna Power Plant was built in the early 1950’s and continues to supply Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley with electricity. It is actually something of an engineering marvel in that it draws water from Elklutna Lake which is four miles and a mountain range away. A nine foot diameter tunnel bores through the mountain and delivers water to the Power Plant.

If nothing else, the power plant is a great landmark to look for when you are looking for the entrance to the parking area. Parking is just west of the plant.
