This picture shows Russian River just upstream from the Seward Highway
bridge. This picture was taken at low tide when no salmon were running.
During years when the AFGD was stocking the creek with silver salmon
smolt, Russian River was a huge draw from nearby Anchorage. Unfortunately,
with it's popularity came a lot of abuse from snagging, to littering,
to unsafe illegal parking. Hopefully the new parking area will solve
the problem of people dangerously parking along the highway.
The waters of Russian River have a strong tint of glacial flour making
it a little more difficult to spot salmon in the river. Also, this
silt has built up into some slippery mud along the banks. Take care
while walking up and down the creek bed.
