Typical Scene of Ship Creek, Anchorage Alaska

A Typical View of Ship Creek

Here is a typical scene of people fishing Ship Creek near downtown Anchorage; crowds, bridges, and mud. Of course this is very uncrowded for Ship Creek standards. During the height of runs, and on good tides, this section of Ship Creek would be shoulder to shoulder fisherman. Ship creek is the third most popular fishing destination in Alaska after the Kenai and Russian Rivers, averaging over 60,000 fishering days of pressure each year.

As for bridges, Ship Creek is crossed and re-crossed with rail, road, highway and pedestrian bridges in it's short fishable stretch. It is not pristine, but it can definitely be productive during the runs. Don't make Ship Creek an end destination, but think about using it to squeeze in some more casts.
