Ship Creek Mud
Mud is definitely a part of the fishing Ship Creek. More than one
Anchorage resident has been overheard slamming Ship Creek as a over-crowded
mudhole.Unfortuanetly, this may be close to the truth. The banks
of the creek are a slick, fouling mess of mud. Take care where you
put your reel down to avoid gumming it with a gooey reminder of
your day at Ship Creek.
More dangerous are the tidal mudflats. Remember, it is
extremely dangerous to walk on the tidal flats at the mouth of the
Ship Creek. At best, getting stuck in tidal mudflats will
cost you a boot and some pride when fisherman gather to watch your
struggles. At worst you can drown as the Knik Inlet's twenty foot
tides come rolling back in. Each year a fisherman or two are pulled
from the Ship Creek mud by the Anchorage Fire Department. For other
considerations while fishing Ship Creek, check out our Dangers
of Ship Creek Pages.
