Silver Salmon and King Salmon Below the Ship Creek Dam Anchorage Alaska

Silver and King Salmon below the Ship Creek Dam

Here, a mix of fresh, chrome Silver Salmon and some turning King Salmon are piling up below the dam on Ship Creek. Many of these fish show tears in their skin from being snagged while swimming through the gauntlet of fishermen below. For now, they can stop to recover in the no fishing zone just below the dam.

This picture was taken from the observation deck next to the dam and the fish ladder. There are some excellant opportunities on and around the dam to observe the salmon as they work their way upstream. For non-fishing visitors, this is a great way to appreciate Ship Creek.
