Fishing Southeast
Alaska

The Land of Fishing Opportunity
The Southeast region of Alaska is crammed full of fishing opportunities.
The fact that the area is equal parts ocean and stream filled islands
makes for some amazing possibilities. There are few other places in
the state, or the world for that matter, where you can fish the morning
for feeder kings on the ocean and then flyfish for freshwater cutthroats
in the afternoon. Add to that, a crab pot full of succulent crab and
some halibut from the day before and you have all the makings of the
greatest shore lunch buffet ever.
If there was one word to describe the fishing of Southeast Alaska it
would have to be opportunity if you can get past the word incredible.
Pristine and protected saltwater passages teem with salmon, ling cod,
crab, and halibut, while on shore the temperate rain forests are filled
with crystalline streams with steelhead, cutthroat and all five species
of salmon.
If you want to do it all, this may be the place to go.
Southeast Alaska Fish Species
Southeast Alaska offers a huge variety of fishing opportunities thanks
to its varied habitats. Both fresh and salt water fisheries are available,
anywhere in the Southeast region. This is the only region with fishable
numbers of Brook Trout. They are hold overs from early attempts to establish
the species in the state.
