Day 3: July 6th

Lake Kenai - Homer

Woke up to clear skies, did some photography around the lake and Cooper's landing area. Took a shower and after seeing others at the showering area, I am a firm believer in wearing flip-flops.Turns out my plantars wart isn't the scariest thing out there.

Had lunch at Gwynns' Cafe at Russian River and when I cam out, the air was filled with smoke. Apparently a fire had started just up the road from there and was filling the valley with smoke.

Russian River was still slow as the second run of sockeye has not started. Drove west to get past the smoke then decided to see if I could take pictures of the fire. Turned off on Skilak Lake road and came accross a small bull moose just off the road. Road was closed just a little ways ahead.

Drove to Soldotna and through Kenai. Then cut up to the Swan River Lakes area. Almost ran into a moose calf as it jumped out of the trees. Then it sat in the middle of the road calling for it's mother. Being in a Ford Focus, I was hoping it wouldn't show up.

Took photos of Russian Orthodox churches in Kenai and Ninilchik and some rivers. Also stopped in Soldotna Clinic to see where there put the hooks in a dummy in the same place they remove them from fishermen.

Ended the night sleeping on the spit on Homer.
