Day 6: July 9th
Seward - Back North
Broke down
and went on a fishing charter. Woke up at 6 AM, packed up and headed
down to the harbor. Had a decent captain and co-fisherman. On the
way out had a pod of Dall Porpoise riding the bow.
Got out and got the how to handle the equipment speech and the first
poles were being handed out when two orcas surfaced twenty yards from
the boat. Since they pretty much scare every salmon out their area,
we headed out to a crowded Pony Cove.
Relatively slow fishing at Pony Cove and apparently everywhere despite,
or maybe because of the calm seas and clear skies. I ended up with
two silver Salmon and a Halibut and threw back a flounder and a Goby.
But I did get to see Orca, have a good talk with a captain who said
I would have no problem getting a guiding job in Seward and that pay
was $500 a week.
Afterward took some photos and started back north
