Day 7: July 10th
It's time to pick up Tim, I couldn't find a campsite
last night so I slept in the car at a pull out. Was gently woken this
morning at 7:30 when the RV behind me slipped into gear and rolled
into the back of the car. No damage but there was a few seconds when
I wasn't sure what was going on.Thought for a second I was experiencing
my first Alaskan earthquake I didn't sleep through.
Picked up Tim and headed north to Denali. Jogged over
to Talkeetna and found that it was the annual Moose Dropping Days.
Headed
out of Talkeetna with just under half a tank of gas. Had some anxious
as we watched the gas gauge go down. Tim said we didn't have anything
to worry about because you have two gallons after the light goes on.
Before he finished saying that the light went off.
So,
Tim reads from the Manual that the light goes on at or near empty.
After anger, despair and finally acceptance we saw a gas in three
miles sign. We had three anxious minutes and we say the white dome
of the igloo. Which I distinctly recalled as closed. Luckily the gas
pump was still on. We gased up and went on.
